Please help close the gap caused by food price increases
In just one year, the cost of a basic grocery food basket for a family of four increased by R407.44.
While this is tough on everyone who is struggling to find the extra money, it’s devastating for a children’s home like JCH. Because we are not a family of 4. There are 64 children in our ‘family’. Which means we have to find sixteen x R407.44 – or a massive R6 519 extra – every month!
We’re not talking luxury items like biscuits, crisps and ice-cream. Just everyday essentials – potatoes, carrots and spinach, rice, sugar, milk, eggs and meat. And now, with the latest petrol price increase, we expect food prices to go up even more. Not to mention over 13% hike in electricity tariffs.
That’s why I’m appealing to friends like you to help ‘Close the Gap’ by donating R407 today. If you can do this every month … or even half that amount every month … it would be such a blessing.
Children at JCH aren’t here because they want to be. They’re here because they’ve been hurt or neglected in the past – and they need somewhere safe and secure where they can heal and learn to trust again.
We have to provide for all their needs … including making sure that there is plenty of good, nutritious food to go round. But it’s getting harder and harder to make ends meet.
Please help if you can. Your donation is not just about buying a bag of potatoes or rice … it’s reassurance for kids who have to work hard to believe that there are still some good and caring people in the world.

WHO WE ARE
The Johannesburg Children’s Home is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 001-034) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 130001111) which provides a safe refuge for up to 64 children who have been found in need of care by the Children’s Court.

DEVELOPMENT
Through our Developmental Programmes, we are able to build on their strengths by equipping them with appropriate skills in development, leadership training, mentoring and general life skills.
EDUCATION
We maintain regular contact with all these schools through our Social Workers & Child & Youth Care Workers – ensuring that our children achieve their educational goals from primary school to high school.
THERAPY
Every child that enters our doors has suffered trauma as a result of the abuse they have experienced. Our mission is to heal the harm and put the pieces back together.
