JCH kids give back
Growing up in a children’s home, you’re usually on the receiving end of gifts of goodwill, kindness and charity. So it’s great for our kids to understand that they can also be the ‘givers’ – not necessarily in terms of material items, but in giving of themselves and their time, something that’s even more valuable.
On 9 March, our President Awards children supported CANSA’s Relay for Life at the Boksburg rugby club. The children made colourful banners of hope for cancer patients and the families of those who have lost loved ones to the disease, and dressed up as super heroes to symbolise the heroic fight of cancer survivors.
This was followed by a visit to CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation on 23 March, where our boys and girls handed out teddy bears to children with cancer. They spent some time playing games and colouring in with the tiny patients.
Earlier, on Valentine’s Day, the children baked muffins for their care workers and wrote them personal letters to let them know how much they love and appreciate everything these wonderful women do for them.[ Posted 24 July 2018 ]
